The redevelopment of the Bersham Road campus in Wrexham for Coleg Cambria has been awarded to Wynne Construction. The project will involve the demolition of smaller, detached buildings to create four core buildings. Three existing buildings will be completely revamped and refurbished and a brand new state-of-the-art teaching facility will be constructed along with substantially improving the parking facilities.

The Bersham Road campus mainly focuses on providing vocational subjects, including joinery, engineering, plastering and plumbing. Their investment is expected to increase capacity, as well as the number of courses available on the site.

Work started on site in July 2016 and completion will be phased until Summer 2018.

The building is to be constructed to BREEAM Excellent standards with highly sustainable features to include a fabric first design, the use of natural daylight and natural ventilation within, whilst also incorporating photovoltaic panels and air source heat pumps.

A BREEAM assessment uses recognised measures of performance, which are set against established benchmarks, to evaluate a building's specification, design, construction and use. The measures used represent a broad range of categories and criteria from energy to ecology. They include aspects related to energy and water use, the internal environment (health and well-being), pollution, transport, materials, waste, ecology and management processes.

The Bersham Road Development is a registered site with the Considerate Constructors Scheme

As a 'Considerate Constructor' we endeavour to ensure that our works have a limited impact upon daily operations. This project has been registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme and we are committed to meeting, and exceeding, CCS standards.
