BREEAM
Target Excellent
The new Gwenfro Primary School developed by Wrexham County Borough Council will provide state-of-the-art facilities in Wrexham. The facility will provide an inspirational learning experience for primary school children in a 21st Century education facility.
The two-storey building includes nursery provision, key stage 1 & 2 classrooms, with a shared hall facility and administrative accommodation. On completion of the new building, the existing school will be demolished to make way for an exciting new hard and soft landscape experience.
The building is constructed to BREEAM Excellent standards with highly sustainable features to include a fabric first design, the use of natural daylight and natural ventilation within, whilst also incorporating photovoltaic panels.
A BREEAM assessment uses recognised measures of performance, which are set against established benchmarks, to evaluate a building's specification, design, construction and use. The measures used represent a broad range of categories and criteria from energy to ecology. They include aspects related to energy and water use, the internal environment (health and well-being), pollution, transport, materials, waste, ecology and management processes.
