Wynne Construction was appointed by Gwynedd County Council to construct the new Welsh National Sailing Academy and Events Centre in Pwllheli. The new facility provides an events hall, restaurant / cafÉ and education training rooms and is a focal point for sailing in Wales.
The project received financial support from the European Convergence Programme, Welsh Government and Gwynedd Council. In order to develop the Academy Gwynedd Council worked in partnership with Pwllheli Sailing Club, Welsh Government, North Wales Watersports, Plas Menai, Grwp Llandrillo Menai and the Welsh Yachting Association.
Building Information
The facility is to be constructed to BREEAM Excellent standards with sustainable features to include Biomass Heating, photovoltaic panels and rainwater harvesting.
A BREEAM assessment uses recognised measures of performance, which are set against established benchmarks, to evaluate a building's specification, design, construction and use. The measures used represent a broad range of categories and criteria from energy to ecology. They include aspects related to energy and water use, the internal environment (health and well-being), pollution, transport, materials, waste, ecology and management processes.
Work started on site in July 2014 and was completed in August 2015.
