Wynne Construction has been awarded the contract, to design and build a new centre for Coleg Cambria's Yale site in Wrexham.
The new three-storey, 96,000sqft building is to house facilities for catering, creative arts, and sports students along with providing general teaching and IT studios, replacing the elements of the campus' existing buildings, which will be demolished. The facility will also be home to the National Library of Wales digital archive, where members of the public can access information on Welsh culture and heritage.
The campus revamp supports the Wrexham Town Masterplan, which outlines the need for projects in the area to benefit the local economy.
Work commenced on site in February 2019 and the project is due for completion in Autumn 2020.
Fly-through of the Yale Site Redevelopment
The building is to be constructed to BREEAM Excellent standards with highly sustainable features to include the use of natural daylight and natural ventilation within whilst also incorporating a number of sustainable technologies.
A BREEAM assessment uses recognised measures of performance, which are set against established benchmarks, to evaluate a building's specification, design, construction and use. The measures used represent a broad range of categories and criteria from energy to ecology. They include aspects related to energy and water use, the internal environment (health and well-being), pollution, transport, materials, waste, ecology and management processes.
The Yale Site development is a registered site with the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
As a 'Considerate Constructor' we endeavour to ensure that our works have a limited impact upon daily operations. This project has been registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme and we are committed to meeting, and exceeding, CCS standards.
