Pupils in the Pwllheli area have recently been involved in two construction-based events hosted by Wynne Construction.
Primary school children from Ysgol Cymerau took part in a health & safety presentation with a surprise visit from Ivor Goodsite, the mascot for the Considerate Constructors Scheme who helped support our Health & Safety Manager Glyn Hughes.
Ivor was on hand to help demonstrate the dangers on construction sites and to launch a poster competition for the children.
On Friday 6th March, three schools - Ysgol Cymerau (Yr 6), Ysgol Glan y Mor and Ysgol Botwnnog (Yr 9) took part in CITB's Building Game held at Ysgol Glan y Mor.
There were ten teams of six children who each took on a role for the exercise - these were Project Manager, Site Engineer, Quantity Surveyor, General Foreman, Planner and Accountant.
A model had been created using play bricks and the idea was to build an exact copy of the model. The Project Manager and Site Engineer were given 30 seconds and 10/20 second sessions to view the model and then report back to their team. The other team members then had to decide which materials to buy and calculate the cost of the model. The children worked very successfully as a team and showed great enthusiasm for the task.
Wynne Construction are working towards the final phase of the Welsh National Sailing Academy and Events Centre in Pwllheli.
