14-Jul-2016

Ysgol Glancegin Meet the Buyer Event With work on Gwynedd Council's new £5.1 million Ysgol Glancegin in Bangor about to get underway, main contractors, Wynne Construction are keen to hear from companies interested in a range of possible sub-contracting opportunities.

A "meet the buyer" event will be held at Ysgol Glancegin in Bangor on Thursday, 21st July from 1pm to 4pm. The new school will ensure the best teaching environment, and the development will also offer an external teaching space, as well as providing new play areas which will support the children's development across all parts of the curriculum.

Councillor Mandy Williams-Davies, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member with responsibility for procurement matters said: "As part of the Council's Keeping the Benefit Local scheme, we are committed to doing as much as we can to ensure that local companies and sub-contractors can make the most from major public service contracts.

"Over the past few years, the Council has worked effectively in a partnership with Wynne Construction to complete a number of school projects, and at the moment, they are leading on a project to build the new Ysgol Hafod Lon in Penrhyndeudraeth.

"We know from experience that the company shares our commitment to keeping as much as possible of the benefits of similar projects within the local economy by employing as many local staff and contractors on the projects as possible and supporting local businesses in their supply chains. This meet the buyer event provides an excellent opportunity for Gwynedd businesses to potentially benefit from the Ysgol Glancegin project and I would urge companies that are interested in work as sub-contractors to register their interest."

Wynne Construction is specifically keen to hear from companies that could sub-contract in the areas of: Carpentry/Joinery, Cladding, Ceilings, Painting & Decoration, Demolition, Glazing, External render, External balustrade, Fencing, Floor finishes, Hard and soft landscaping, Hygienic wall surfaces, Insulation, Macadam surfacing, Partitions including plastering and dry lining, Road markings, Scaffolding, Signage, Wall tiling, Mechanical & Electrical and Roofing.

Councillor Gareth Thomas, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Education, added: "It's fantastic that work is now about to get underway on the Ysgol Glancegin project. With an investment of over £5 million, children in this area of Bangor will benefit from a modern teaching environment when it opens next year."

The new Ysgol Glancegin project is jointly funded by Gwynedd Council and the Welsh Government through their 21st Century Schools Programme and is part of the Welsh Government's £200 million Schools and Public Buildings Contractor Framework for North Wales. It is expected that the new Ysgol Glancegin will open in September 2017.

Sub-contractors keen to register their interest to attend the meet the buyer event on Thursday, 21st July from 1pm to 4pm should email: sales@wynneconstruction.co.uk or contact them on 01745 586666. Closing date for registrations is Monday 18th July.
