Wynne Construction teams up with Considerate Constructors to help school pupils stay safe

Wynne Construction has joined forces with the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) to educate primary school pupils on the dangers of construction sites.

Officials from Wynne Construction and the CCS' mascot, Honor Goodsite, went on a visit to Ysgol Dewi Sant, Rhyl, which is situated close to the site of the latest Travelodge project currently being built.

HSEQ Manager Glyn Hughes gave a presentation to the school children, introducing Honor Goodsite and teaching them to keep safe near construction sites and how they can explore a career in the industry.

Honor handed out certificates to all pupils in recognition of their understanding of construction site safety, before visiting the Travelodge construction site.

The 73-bedroom building is progressing on schedule with a total workforce of around 300, made up of Wynne Construction staff and local supply chain partners.

The site, which will form part of the £25m Rhyl Waterfront regeneration scheme, is starting its next phase of works with foundations laid. A steel frame for a ground floor bar, reception and breakfast area has been installed, which will support further timber frames for upper floor rooms. The build is due to finish at the end of 2018 for client ION Developments.

It is the second phase of the Rhyl Waterfront project awarded to Wynne Construction, as it completed first phase works on the Rhyl Pavilion Theatre and Sky Tower in 2017.

Site manager Mark Wilson said: "Wynne Construction is a committed member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme and we were delighted to welcome Honor onsite, and to show her how well the work is progressing here. We have installed the sub structure block, which will form the foundations, and are now working on the timber frames."

The Considerate Constructors Scheme is a non-profit-making, independent organisation founded in 1997 by the construction industry to improve its image. Construction sites, companies and suppliers voluntarily register with the Scheme and agree to abide by the Code of Considerate Practice, designed to encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements.
