Wynne Construction wins big at national industry awards

Wynne Construction is celebrating after scooping a major accolade at a national industry awards. We were named SME (1-50 employees) of the year at the Constructing Excellence in Wales (CEW) Awards, which celebrates the best of Wales' construction sector.

In addition to its prestigious award win, the contractor's work with Anglesey County Council, building Ysgol Rhyd y Llan in Llanfaethlu, came out top in the sustainability category.

The family firm, which was established more than 90 years ago, has enjoyed a strong 12 months including winning contracts to build a new Travelodge in Rhyl as well as multiple schools across North Wales. Wynne Construction is also the only indigenous Welsh contractor to have full building information modelling (BIM) Level 2 certification through the Building Research Establishment (BRE). BIM technology is used to reduce waste and save time during the construction.

The company's use of BIM was also recognised by CEW judges, with its construction of Ysgol Cybi in Holyhead, coming runner up in the Preservation and Rejuvenation category.

The construction sector has changed significantly in the last 90 years and we have constantly adapted and innovated to thrive. We have experienced the peaks and troughs and survived multiple recessions.

Our focus on achieving accreditations like BIM has separated us from the competition, as we can help clients save money and provide effective, efficient builds. CEW is a Welsh Government backed-scheme aiming to improve the construction industry's performance and value for money. It encourages collaboration and best practice for construction in Wales.

Wynne Construction has experienced a successful first six months of 2018 with awards. In addition to its triumphs at CEW, its work on a new lifeboat station for RNLI Llandudno has won awards from the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and Local Authority Building Control (LABC) in North Wales.

The company's RNLI project won the LABC's All-Wales award, and is in contention for another accolade at the national LABC UK awards ceremony in November.
