Steel frames for a convenience store and an adjacent coffee shop off the A55 in Denbighshire, have now been completed by Wynne Construction. The location of the scheme, to build a Spar store and adjacent Costa Coffee cafÉ, is just 50 metres from the contractor’s head office in Bodelwyddan.
Located at the busy junction 25, used to access Glan Clwyd Hospital and the famous Marble Church, the two adjoining sites are being developed having remained dormant for many years. Wynne Construction started work on the £1.2m contract in June. The 4,000 sq ft Spar store will also contain a Post Office and Subway sandwich bar, while the Costa will comprise a drive-through, plus a sit-down cafÉ.
Each single-storey unit will have a separate entrance, accessed off Rhuddlan Road. Wynne Construction’s work, which includes car parking and landscaping, is scheduled to be complete by the end of October.
Wynne Construction project manager Steve Davies said: “One of the main challenges is going to be making the new utility connections in the busy road servicing Ysbyty Glan Clwyd without too much disruption. Spar and Costa each have their own specifications regarding facades. Once we’ve completed the shells, we’ll had them over for fit-out by the specialists.”
“Since Wynne Construction’s hoardings went up, there has been a lot of interest from the general public about what we’re building, because the site is so prominently situated. We were especially pleased to be awarded this contract, as it means we are building close to our headquarters.”
Wynne Construction, which has just completed construction of the new 73-bed Rhyl Travelodge, was recently selected for two multi-million-pound Welsh industry frameworks.
It is now currently gearing up to deliver work for the North Wales Construction Partnership (NWCP), for projects £2m – £10m in value; and the South-East and mid-Wales Collaborative Construction Framework (SEWSCAP3) for projects between £10m - £25m.
