Wynne Construction delivers new Ysgol Llanfair DC

Pupils have taken their first steps into their new school built by Wynne Construction. Ysgol Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd was recently completed with youngsters moving into the brand new £5.3m bilingual church school for the first-time this week.

The new school is now located in the centre of the village offering vital extra car parking and replaces the old school premises which were situated on the main road in the village, outside Ruthin.

Wynne Construction employed an average of 20 personnel, comprising direct employees and subcontractors, on the site each week for the duration of work.

Chris Wynne, managing director said: "Our experience in construction in the education sector in North Wales is second to none and we are pleased to have completed work at Ysgol Llanfair DC. This was a successful and exciting project for Wynne Construction and it is really positive to have been able to contribute to this scheme that will support bilingual education in the Ruthin area.”

The new school has been built on land opposite Bron y Clwyd. It has been funded from the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools and Education programme, in partnership with investment from Denbighshire County Council.

Cllr Huw Hilditch-Roberts, Denbighshire Council lead member for education, children's services and public engagement, said: "Seeing the children’s reaction to their new school was fantastic. They are thrilled with their school which will give them a first-class environment so they can get the best out of their education. Thanks to partnership working, pupils have the best opportunity to achieve their full potential in both Welsh and English. This is yet another example of Denbighshire’s commitment to invest in education facilities and is part of our work to make sure young people have the best possible start in life.”

Rosalind Williams, director of education and lifelong learning for the Diocese of St Asaph, said: “We are delighted the new bilingual Church School in Llanfair DC has opened its doors. This has been a great partnership between the Welsh Government, Denbighshire County Council and the Diocese of St Asaph working together to achieve the best for the children".
