Wynne Construction wins new build primary school in Welshpool

Wynne Construction wins new build primary school in Welshpool Wynne Construction has been awarded the contract by Powys County Council to build the new 150-place primary school for Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng.

The Denbighshire-based company will be required to provide substantial opportunities for local contractors as well as deliver additional community benefits during the scheme’s construction.

Meet the Buyer events will be arranged shortly so that local contractors and suppliers have the opportunity to meet Wynne Construction as part of the scheme.

Work on the development, which is being funded by the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools Programme and is 50% funded by the council, is due to start next month (February). Earlier today, Cabinet agreed to increase the council’s allocation for the project by £1.35m to meet the additional costs for the project.

The innovative scheme for the new school combines the old and the new which will provide the pupils of Ysgol Gymraeg y Trallwng and the community of Welshpool with fantastic facilities whilst maintaining the presence of the iconic Ysgol Maesydre.

The old Grade II listed building will be refurbished to accommodate early years and community facilities and a new extension will be built to include a new school hall and classroom bases. The building will also be the first Passivhaus hybrid project in the UK.

Cllr Phyl Davies, Cabinet Member for Education and Property, said: “I’m delighted that Wynne Construction have been appointed as the lead contractors to build the new school for Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng. It’s great that this project has moved a step closer after experiencing some setbacks that were completely beyond the control of the council.

“Our exciting plans for Ysgol Gymraeg y Trallwng will provide our learners with 21st Century facilities while preserving and modernising a Grade II listed building for the community of Welshpool to use. We have a strategy to transform education in Powys and the Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng new build shows our commitment to deliver this important strategy. When complete, it will provide a learning environment that will allow learners and teaching staff to thrive and reach their potential through the medium of Welsh. We look forward to working with Wynne Construction for the duration of this project.”

Mae Cyngor Sir Powys wedi dyfarnu’r contract i Wynne Construction i adeiladu ysgol gynradd newydd ar gyfer 150 o ddisgyblion yn Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng.

Bydd yn ofynnol i’r cwmni o Sir Ddinbych ddarparu cyfleoedd niferus i gontractwyr lleol yn ogystal  sicrhau buddion cymunedol ychwanegol yn ystod gwaith adeiladu’r cynllun.

Bydd digwyddiadau Cwrdd Â’r Prynwr yn cael eu trefnu’n fuan fel rhan o’r cynllun fel bod contractwyr lleol a chyflenwyr yn cael y cyfle i gwrdd  Wynne Construction.

Bydd gwaith ar y datblygiad, sy'n cael ei ariannu gan Raglen Ysgolion yr 21ain Ganrif Llywodraeth Cymru ac sy'n cael ei ariannu 50% gan y cyngor, yn dechrau fis nesaf (Chwefror).

Yn gynharach heddiw (dydd Mawrth, 12 Ionawr), cytunodd y Cabinet i gynyddu cyfraniad y cyngor ar gyfer y prosiect o £1.35m er mwyn cwrdd  chostau ychwanegol y prosiect.

Mae’r cynllun arloesol ar gyfer yr ysgol newydd yn cyfuno’r hen a’r newydd. Bydd yn darparu cyfleusterau gwych i ddisgyblion Ysgol Gymraeg y Trallwng a chymuned y Trallwng ynghyd  chynnal presenoldeb Ysgol eiconig Maesydre.

Bydd yr hen adeilad rhestredig Gradd II yn cael ei adnewyddu i greu cyfleusterau blynyddoedd cynnar a chymunedol a bydd estyniad newydd yn cael ei adeiladu i gynnwys neuadd ysgol ac ystafelloedd dosbarth newydd. Yr adeilad hwn bydd y prosiect hybrid Passivhaus cyntaf yn y DU.

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Phyl Davies, Aelod Cabinet ar faterion Addysg ac Eiddo: “Rwy’n falch bod Wynne Construction wedi cael ei benodi fel y prif gontractwyr i adeiladu’r ysgol newydd ar gyfer Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng.

“Mae’n wych bod y prosiect hwn wedi symud cam yn agosaf ar Ôl profi rhai anawsterau a oedd y tu hwn i reolaeth y cyngor.

“Bydd ein cynlluniau cyffrous ar gyfer Ysgol Gymraeg y Trallwng yn darparu cyfleusterau yr 21ain Ganrif ar gyfer ein dysgwyr tra'n cadw a moderneiddio adeilad rhestredig Gradd II i’w defnyddio gan gymuned y Trallwng.

"Mae gennym strategaeth i drawsnewid addysg ym Mhowys ac mae adeilad newydd Ysgol Gymraeg y Trallwng yn dangos ein hymrwymiad i gyflawni'r strategaeth bwysig hon. Ar Ôl ei gwblhau, bydd yn darparu amgylchedd dysgu a fydd yn caniatÁu i ddysgwyr a staff addysgu i ffynnu a chyflawni eu potensial drwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg.

“Rydym yn edrych ymlaen at weithio gyda Wynne Construction am gyfnod y prosiect hwn.”
