Ground breaking ceremony marks construction of new £2.3m business units

13-Oct-2021

Ground breaking ceremony marks construction of new £2.3m business units An official ground breaking ceremony to mark the start of building work on 6 new Tregarnedd business units on the Bryn Cefni Industrial Park, Llangefni, was held earlier today (13 October).

Anglesey’s Economic Development officers successfully applied for £2.3m from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Welsh Government.

Wynne Construction has been appointed to build the 6 Business Units after the County Council utilised the services of the North Wales Construction Framework to appoint a contractor.

Each individual business unit will provide 124m² of light industrial, office and storage space to help facilitate business growth on the island and to respond to the growing demand for small grow-on modern business premises.

Anglesey County Council Economic Development and Major Projects Portfolio Holder Cllr Carwyn Jones said, “Securing funding for the construction of 6 new business units on Anglesey will help us deliver on the vision and aims outlined in the Council’s plan 2017 to 2022.

He added, “The development will provide local businesses the opportunity to develop and also help create good quality jobs for our residents. The project is part of wider plans to develop Anglesey’s Enterprise Zone and the units will complement other EU backed business premises on the island”.

Construction will be complete and the units ready for businesses to occupy in 2022.

Economy Minister Vaughan Gething said: “This modern business space will support our commitment to create a more prosperous Wales for all.

“We want to secure long-term economic change for our communities and I am delighted we have been able to support this important project for Anglesey.”

Wynne Construction Commercial Manager Simon Moreton said: “As a contractor on the North Wales Construction Framework, we are really pleased to have secured this contract to work with Isle of Anglesey County Council once again.”

He added: “These six new units will be a welcome addition to the existing business provision in Llangefni and we are looking forward to working on another commercial scheme on Anglesey, following on from our success with the Penrhos Business Units in Holyhead. In addition, the scheme complements our current project in the town, with the building of the new Ysgol Corn Hir and maximising on the economic, skills and training opportunities for our local supply chain.”

Anglesey’s Planning and Public Protection Portfolio Holder, Councillor Richard Dew, added, “Preparation work has started on site ready for construction to get underway. This is an exciting opportunity for existing and new businesses on Anglesey to expand in brand new business units.
