Official Opening for Eirias High School

A new technology building was officially opened at Ysgol Eirias on 22 February 2010 by Mr Kerry Jones, Chair of Governors.

The new building replaces the old 'C' block and provides the school with new facilities for Art, Design & Technology, Science, general classroom accommodation and a fantastic new Library and resource area.

New sustainable and eco-friendly characteristics form part of the design of the new block. The accommodation includes features such as a rainwater harvesting system, a natural ventilation system, supplementary solar hot water heating and automatic energy efficient and lighting system and boilers.

The project is part of Conwy's Foundation School project; the building cost in the region of £4.3 million and was funded with a combination of Welsh Assembly Government School Building Improvement Grant and Conwy County Borough Council capital resources.

The new classroom block was delivered on time and within budget with minimum disruption to the students and staff in the school - an achievement to be proud of. Wynne Construction were the main contractors and were congratulated for their hard work, co-operation and dedication to ensure the safe delivery of the project within a live school environment.

The project was well underway whilst the school was subject to an Estyn Inspection which consequently saw the awarding of seven grade 1's for each of the seven key questions - an outstanding achievement which appropriately reflects the high quality education received by the pupils.

Mr Kerry Jones, Chair of Governors is very proud of the new building and the school's achievements: "The new building will continue to provide excellent learning opportunities for the students here at Ysgol Eirias for years to come."

Cllr Glyn Jones, Chairman of Conwy County Borough Council said "It is the first time that I have visited the new block and you cannot fail to be impressed with the new facilities. Making sure children get the best educational start is a key priority for the Council and I am delighted to see the results of this investment."

The building was dedicated in memory of Mrs Ann Jones, Catering Manager for her commitment, devotion and long service for the school.
