Wynne Construction is continuing to advance the £8m Kings Moat Community Primary School after welcoming Aphra Brandreth, MP for Chester South and Eddisbury, members from Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC) and the team from the multi-academy trust (MAT) Sandstone Trust, on site.

Appointed on a design and build contract by the council, Wynne is building the new school located within the new 1,300-home Kings Moat Garden Village, Chester, with internal work currently underway.

The school’s sports grounds and surrounding areas are also being prepared for the start of the new academic year, with pupils set to access playing fields, 3G pitches, and a public park nearby.

Wynne Construction senior contracts manager, Graham Dickinson, who was also in attendance during the site visit, outlined the latest milestones and the handover process to Sandstone Trust, which is set to operate the school.

He said: “We’re extremely proud to be part of the team shaping this fantastic new school for Chester.

“It’s been a privilege to collaborate with both the Council and Sandstone Trust to deliver a high-quality, sustainable building that will serve the local community for years to come.”

Entry into the educational facility will commence in two phases with spaces for 13 nursery children and 210 pupils in September 2026 (one form entry), followed by an additional 105 places for youngsters (half form entry) as demand within the housing development increases.

Aphra said: “It’s really encouraging to see the progress being made at Kings Moat Community Primary School. This will make a genuine difference for families locally, with more school places and a high-quality learning environment right here in the community. For many parents, it means their children can go to a great local school without having to travel further afield.”

“It’s fantastic to see the progress at Kings Moat Community Primary School. This new school will give local families confidence that high-quality modern education is right here on their doorstep. It marks a real step forward for the next generation of pupils.”

Cllr Adam Langan, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, added: “This project is a clear example of our ongoing investment in high-quality education and the infrastructure needed to support Cheshire’s growing communities.

Kings Moat will provide modern facilities for children to learn and thrive, right at the centre of the new Garden Village development. It’s fantastic to see the progress and the positive partnership that has delivered it.”

Jason Lowe, chief executive officer of Sandstone Trust, said: “It’s great to see Kings Moat Community Primary School taking shape. Our partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council and Wynne Construction has been strong, and we’re creating a school at the heart of this new community.”

Ruth Cadwallader, headteacher of Kings Moat Community Primary School, said: “Every stage of the build brings us closer to opening our doors and welcoming our first pupils, which is incredibly exciting.

“Kings Moat will be a warm, inclusive, and forward-thinking school where children can thrive. We’re also in the process of recruiting some wonderful new teaching staff, and I’m really looking forward to introducing them to the community over the coming months.”
