Wynne Construction’s work on Ysgol Dyffryn Aeron was hailed as first minister of Wales Eluned Morgan MS officially opened the 21st– century facility that is offering pupils “a world-class education”.

Welcoming students since the beginning of 2025, the new building in Ceredigion has amalgamated Ciliau Parc School, Dihewyd School, and Felinfach School.

Ceredigion County Council appointed Wynne Construction to build the school, which can accommodate up to 210 pupils, with additional capacity for ALN, Welsh language, and pre-school provision.

Modern facilities at the £16.3m site also include a 3G sports pitch with floodlights and a multi-use games area.

During the build, Denbighshire-based Wynne Construction held a Structural Insulated Panel (SIPs) signing ceremony.

SIPs are a lightweight and efficient build system made off-site which form the walls and roof of the new school.

Bryn Roberts, Wynne Construction site manager for the project, said: “It’s a proud moment for us when a project as significant as this one is completed.

“We’re thrilled with the feedback we’ve received regarding the facility, which has included kind words from pupils and parents right through to the first minister.”

Ms Morgan said: “It was a pleasure to open Ysgol Dyffryn Aeron, which will lay a solid foundation to give young people in the area the best start in life.

“I’m pleased the Welsh Government has been able to support investment in the new school, which is in such a wonderful location.”

Councillor Wyn Thomas, Ceredigion’s cabinet member for lifelong learning and schools, echoed the first minister’s thoughts, saying: “This is an important day for Ysgol Dyffryn Aeron, the surrounding communities in the Aeron valley, and the county as a whole.

“This new school offers our pupils a world-class education and provides a 21st-century facility, as well as facilities to support pupils with additional learning needs.”

Ysgol Dyffryn Aeron headteacher, Nia Lloyd Thomas, added: “Today marks an immensely proud and historical occasion for us in Ysgol Dyffryn Aeron.

“After years of campaigning, planning, and hard work, we have ensured that our pupils will not only benefit from a building and amenities of the highest standard, but also an education and the social and emotional skills needed for a bright future.”

This £16.3m school was funded through the Welsh Government’s Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme (£10.1m), the Welsh Government’s Early Years and Childcare Capital Programme (£1.6m), and a matched funding contribution from Ceredigion County Council of £4.6m.
