Wynne Construction has been appointed by Caerphilly County Borough Council, as part of its Place Shaping programme, to refurbish the former Pontllanfraith Comprehensive School site into a new centre for skills and learning, to provide high quality facilities for pupils aged between 11-16 years old. The project scope includes the renovation of the existing building, internal conversions and the construction of a new leisure centre and 3G pitch and associated external works for both the new centre and community to use.

The former grammar school section of the site will be refurbished and extended to provide ten teaching spaces, rooms for small groups, a meeting room, staff room, main hall, teaching kitchen and café. The building will undergo significant improvements and refurbishment, to include repointed stonework and the installation of a new slate roof. Covered seating areas will also provide spaces for relaxation and outdoor teaching. Pupils will have the opportunity to gain experience by working in the teaching kitchen and café, in addition to growing fruit and vegetables in the garden area.

Construction commenced in April 2024 and is scheduled for completion in Summer 2026.
