Higher Education Centre, Deeside

Education North Wales
Value: < £5m

The new Higher Education Centre at Coleg Cambria, Deeside campus was designed by Ainsley Gommon Architects and provides state-of-the-art facilities for college.

The new centre provides an inspirational learning experience for higher education students in a 21st Century education facility. The two-storey building includes a lecture theatre, science laboratories, CAD/CAM suites and general classrooms along with student social facilities.

The building is constructed to BREEAM Excellent standards with highly sustainable features to include a fabric first design, the use of natural daylight and natural ventilation within, whilst also incorporating photovoltaic panels and air source heat pumps.

A BREEAM assessment uses recognised measures of performance, which are set against established benchmarks, to evaluate a building's specification, design, construction and use. The measures used represent a broad range of categories and criteria from energy to ecology. They include aspects related to energy and water use, the internal environment (health and well-being), pollution, transport, materials, waste, ecology and management processes.

Work started on site in January 2016 and was completed in August 2016.
