Wynne Construction took part in the turf cutting ceremony with Gwynedd Council as work on the new state-of-the-art school was officially launched in Penrhyndeudraeth.
The new £13m school, due to open in Autumn 2016, will replace Ysgol Hafod Lon in Y Ffor and pupils from the Meirionnydd and Dwyfor areas of Gwynedd are set to benefit from the latest facilities and resources. The new facility will include modern and well equipped classrooms, a hydrotheraphy pool, therapy rooms, sensory equipment, suitable outdoor areas for play and learning as well as a garden and café where older children can develop entrepreneurial skills.
The project has been match funded by the Welsh Government through its 21st Century Schools Programme.
The new school will also include a six-bed residential and short-break unit, which will allow pupils to stay for long or short periods of time.
