Wynne Construction has started work on a multi-million-pound development which will see a new disability respite centre, complex care day resource unit, cafe, shop and support facilities built in Colwyn Bay.
The Bodelwyddan-based firm was awarded the contract by Conwy County Borough Council.
Cabinet member for Economic Development and Leisure (Deputy Leader), Councillor Louise Emery and Head of Integrated Adult and Community services, Claire Higgins, attended the site in May with members of Wynne Construction to take part in a turf-cutting ceremony, heralding the commencement of the development.
The £5.5m facility will see a respite centre, complex care day resource unit, a cafe, shop and support facilities erected at Bron y Nant on Dinerth Road.
The Disability Respite Facility will provide 5 fully furnished apartments, communal space and support staff accommodation for those with disability support needs. In addition, the Complex Care day unit will provide a daily respite service for those with complex needs. The cafe and shop will provide additional work opportunities for people with Disabilities.
Graham Dickson, contracts manager at Wynne Construction, said: “We are very excited to commence work at the Bron y Nant site and we are looking forward to bringing this development to the residents of Conwy county. The first phase of construction, taking six weeks, will be installing the foundations of the café at the lower level of the site at the Bryn Euryn Nurseries. A retaining wall will be built on the upper section and there will be a further 10-12 weeks of foundation works for the respite centre.”
When construction is finished, the new building for the Bryn Euryn Nurseries will incorporate a cafe, shop and plant selling area, with the Crematorium being accessed via the newly developed Bryn Euryn Nurseries.
Work is expected to be completed by July 2022.
