Wynne Construction chosen for Welsh medium school renovation

Wynne Construction has been selected as contractor to build the near £3 million remodelling and extension of Ysgol Glanrafon in Mold.

We were chosen by Flintshire County Council to construct the scheme as well as a further £1m purpose-built pre-school provision on the site of the Welsh medium school on Bryn Coch Lane.

The extension of the site will allow the school’s capacity to increase and is funded through a Welsh Government Welsh Medium Capital grant.

Chris Wynne, managing director at Wynne Construction, said: “As a North Wales firm, we are really pleased to have secured this contract to work with Flintshire County Council once again.This project is another example of our work in the education sector in Flintshire, including Ysgol Penyffordd, Ysgol Maes Hyfryd, Ysgol Pen Coch, Deeside Sixth and Cambria Business School.”

Cllr Ian Roberts, leader of Flintshire County Council and cabinet member for education and youth, said: “Investment in Ysgol Glanrafon will enable us to grow the number of places in the Welsh medium school estate and therefore directly contribute to the ambition to improve the number of fluent Welsh speakers in the area.”

The project has been identified by Welsh Government as one likely to assist with their target of a million Welsh speakers by 2050.

Projects such as this are absolutely crucial if we are to provide our pupils with the learning environments they deserve, while supporting them to achieve their aspirations.”
