Wynne Construction has begun building 49 affordable homes on Abergele Road, Bodelwyddan, as part of an £11 million design and build contract.
Appointed to deliver the works by North Wales’ largest housing association, Adra, a turf‑cutting ceremony has marked the start of the project, which is scheduled for completion in spring 2028.
Funded by Denbighshire County Council and the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant, the scheme will offer residents energy‑efficient social and intermediate rental homes.
Representatives from Adra, alongside project partners and Wynne Construction team members, gathered on site to celebrate the beginning of the new complex.
Wynne Construction managing director Chris Wynne said: “We’re excited to be starting work on this important housing development, particularly as it is located so close to our own headquarters here in Bodelwyddan.”
“It’s also a pleasure to be working once again with our valued client, Adra, following the success of our recent projects together in Bangor. I’m confident our team will deliver another high-quality scheme and achieve excellent results, working in partnership with our local supply chain.
“We plan to work closely with residents throughout the construction phase to help minimise any disruption.”
Adra senior project manager, Elliw Owen, said: “We are delighted to begin work on this important development in Bodelwyddan.
“These 49 new affordable properties will provide much‑needed, high‑quality and sustainable homes for local people, while offering the long‑term stability of a secure tenancy, giving residents the consistency and confidence they need to build strong, healthy connections within their community.
“Today’s turf cutting is an exciting milestone, and we look forward to seeing the project progress over the coming months.
“There is so much demand for affordable housing in Denbighshire and north Wales, which reflects the national picture. Adra has made a firm commitment in its Corporate Plan to build new homes that local people can be proud of, that are energy efficient, of high quality and affordable in terms of rent and heating costs.”
Alongside the development, Wynne Construction is also progressing a new 47-home social housing complex on Berse Road, Wrexham, on behalf of Adra.
The £9 million development will include a mixture of two, three, and four-bedroom homes as well as apartments available to rent, with works expected to conclude in Autumn 2026.
