Construction has started on the new flagship, multi-million-pound affordable housing and rehabilitation complex Tŷ Haverfordia in Haverfordwest and the milestone marked with a turf cutting ceremony.
Construction is taking place at the former Haverfordia House site as part of Wynne Construction’s design and build contract awarded by Pembrokeshire County Council.
Upon completion, the development will provide 26 sheltered housing apartments for people aged 55 and above, as well as a purpose-built, 12-bed reablement centre for residents returning home after being discharged from hospital.
Preliminary works include securing the site by creating a compound and contractor parking area, installing controlled access for site personnel, and erecting temporary office and welfare units.
Access to key local facilities, including the GP surgery and the Haverfordwest Leisure Centre, will be ensured throughout the development by keeping pedestrian routes open.
A selection of public parking spaces, including disabled bays and pay and display machines will also remain available to minimise disruption.
To accommodate essential contractor welfare activities, a small area of Rifleman Field will be fenced off for the duration of the project and fully reinstated once works are finalised.
Construction director, Steve Davies said: “We’re honoured to be carrying out such an important scheme in the region, and are looking forward to working closely with Pembrokeshire County Council.
“Throughout the build, we will engage with local suppliers to ensure we contribute to the local economy whilst delivering quality results.
“With our team hard at work advancing the project, I’m eager to see the new development continue to take shape over the coming months.”
Pembrokeshire County Council cabinet member for Housing, Cllr Michelle Bateman, said: “I am pleased that we have finally reached the stage of commencing on site and look forward to seeing the development progressing.
“We have been able to progress with the development after receiving much needed Welsh Government grant assistance for both the reablement and housing parts of the development.”
