Wynne Construction has been appointed by Newport City Council to build the new leisure and wellbeing centre, situated on the riverfront in the city.
The modern development will feature a leisure pool equipped with family-friendly elements such as a lazy river, slides, and interactive play equipment. Additional facilities will include a dedicated teaching pool for swimming lessons and fitness activities, high-quality changing facilities, a café and relaxation area, a fully equipped fitness suite, and a large multi-purpose space designed for community use, group activities, and children's birthday parties.
Significantly, the centre will be one of the UK’s first fossil fuel-free mixed-use leisure centres, powered entirely by low-carbon electricity. More than 55 per cent of the funding comes from external sources, including the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns programme and UK Government support. The project forms part of Newport City Council’s 15-year placemaking plan, which aims to revitalise the city centre through infrastructure, culture and community-led initiatives.
Construction started in January 2024 with project completion anticipated by Winter 2026.
