Ceredigion County Council appointed Wynne Construction to design and build new extensions and remodelling works at Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi in Cardigan, a traditional bilingual mixed comprehensive school with around 575 pupils plus a Sixth Form.

The new accommodation at the Cardigan secondary school included eight classrooms and three IT suites, with low energy lighting, and heating provided by air source heat pumps, plus power provided by rooftop photovoltaic panels. The 11 new classrooms were built as part of the development alongside the renovation, plus the removal of five temporary classrooms.

The new extensions were built utilising off-site manufactured timber-based structurally insulated panels, and the extensive package of works included new windows, improved science provision, a new drama studio, remodelled administration facilities and an increase of area for the school’s canteen.

The project contributes to Ceredigion County Council’s target to become carbon neutral.

Work started on site in July 2021 and was completed in May 2023.

As we are nearing the end of the two-year build project at Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi, I am writing on behalf of the whole school community to thank you for the work that has been completed at our school over the last two years. We are particularly grateful to Bryn Roberts, the site manager, who has been with us for two years now.

Bryn’s tireless work to complete the build project in a timely fashion has been impressive, even when there have been inevitable delays and changes to the schedule. Bryn has been a joy to work with, he has always been accessible and has communicated with us very well so that all the work was achieved as painlessly as possible.
