Wynne Construction has been appointed by Anglesey County Council to build the new net zero carbon extension at Ysgol Y Graig in Llangefni.
Upon completion of the new Foundation Phase building, Ysgol y Graig’s capacity will increase from 330 to 480 (along with 68 in the nursery and a care unit for up to 50 pre-school age children). This increased capacity will meet the increased demand for primary education as a result of housing developments in the catchment area.
After the new Foundation Phase unit is open, its net zero carbon design will mean that it doesn’t use more energy than it generates.
This will be achieved through:
- Enhanced insulation and low air permeability.
- Photovoltaic panels
- Lights which will be 100 per cent low energy and will have energy efficient controls.
Work started on site in January 2023 and was completed in Summer 2024
