Wynne Construction has officially marked a major milestone on the £8m Kings Moat Community Primary School project with a beam signing ceremony. Awarded a design and build contract by Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC), the Denbighshire-based firm has erected the steel framework for the two-storey facility that is set to welcome pupils for the start of the academic year in September 2026.

The event saw attendees from multi‑academy trust (MAT) Sandstone Trust, which will run the school, and CWaC sign a single beam that forms part of the overall structure.

Wynne Construction contracts manager Graham Dickson said: “Signing the steel beam was certainly a rewarding moment, as it celebrates our team’s efforts in progressing the project in a timely manner.

“I hope the next stages of development continue to advance smoothly.

“By adopting a fabric-first approach, we aim to keep air leakage in the building to a minimum, creating a stable temperature for pupils, visitors, and staff alike.

“Our design plans have also taken into account the residential area of the build and, as such, we have installed soundproof hush pods to help minimise equipment noise levels during construction.”

The school, located in the centre of Kings Moat Garden Village housing development, will accommodate up to 315 pupils and 26 nursery children, but will initially open as a 210 place (one form entry) mainstream primary school, with the flexibility to add a further 105 places (half form entry) in the future as the housing development progresses and the pupil place need increases.

Kings Moat Community Primary School will sit centrally within the development with new homes surrounding the school and located close to the new community playing fields, 3G pitches, and the new public park planned for the area.

Energy efficiency and carbon reduction will be placed at the forefront, with fixtures including LED lights set to be fitted in the building and air source heat pumps and solar panels to be installed.

Chris Wynne, managing director of Wynne Construction, said: “With our expertise in constructing educational facilities, I’m confident we will deliver high-quality results whilst giving back to the community.

“We also look forward to welcoming apprentices and work experience students on site to give them a hands-on experience in the construction industry as part of our social value initiatives.”
