Wynne Construction has been accredited as a Real Living Wage employer, a commitment that guarantees its staff will earn a wage that meets the costs and pressures of everyday life.
Wynne Construction’s pledge to pay the Real Living Wage will see all its staff receive a minimum hourly wage of £12.60 in most parts of the UK. significantly higher than the government’s national minimum wage for over 21s, which currently stands at £12.21 per hour.
This commitment to paying the Real Living Wage and delivering a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work, reflects the company’s dedication to improving employer standards in the construction industry.
The Real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the cost of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum.
Since 2011, the living wage movement has delivered a pay rise to more than 475,000 people, with 1 in 7 workers now working for a living wage employer.
Val White, HR manager at Wynne Construction, said: “As a business, we’re committed to supporting social value and sustainability within communities where we work, and through employment that comes with a fair working wage to support our staff. This accreditation reflects that ethos.
“This commitment to the Real Living Wage also serves as an investment in the future, reflecting that Wynne Construction is a company where hard work will be matched with an above average wage, allowing individuals, our business and the communities in which we operate, to flourish.”
The accreditation was awarded by the Living Wage Foundation, which was established after community campaigners successfully fought for pay that meets the cost of living.
Director of Living Wage Foundation, Katherine Chapman, said: “We warmly congratulate Wynne Construction on being an accredited Living Wage Employer.
“They have chosen to go further than the Government minimum and pay all their workers the only UK wage rate that meets the cost of living. In doing so, they are leading the way in tackling low pay in the construction industry and setting a powerful example for other companies to follow.
“Wynne Construction join a movement of over 16,000 responsible employers committed to doing the right thing by their workers. These businesses recognise that paying the Real Living Wage is the mark of a responsible employer and they, like Wynne Construction, believe that everyone needs to be able to live with dignity and have a decent standard of living.”
