Wynne Construction’s desire to support the built environment industry shows absolutely no signs of slowing down.

The North Wales-based firm is committed to boosting the construction sector, evidenced by its Wynne Futures Foundation that encourages more entrants into the sphere through apprenticeships and work placements.

As part of its wider pledge, Wynne Construction sponsored the SME of the year award at the 2024 Construction Excellence Awards Wales (CEW), which was won by Evans Electrical Ltd of South Wales.

Celebrating the best of the construction and built environment industry in Wales, the victors impressed with a standout submission that showed how the family-run business is now one of the country’s largest privately owned electrical engineering and installation specialists.

Wynne Construction’s managing director Chris Wynne was part of the judging panel, saying: “SMEs are a core part of the supply chain and the backbone of the construction industry.

“It was a tough task for the panel to pick a winner, but Evans Electrical impressed us by showcasing how they embody best practise as well as model the Constructing Excellence principles of procurement, which includes innovation, collaboration, productivity, and client satisfaction.

“Wynne knows from first-hand experience the benefits winning a CEW award brings, and we hope Evans Electrical continues to grow.”

Wynne Construction is no stranger to the impact winning a CEW accolade can have after lifting the same trophy in 2018, with success at the UK-wide national awards following shortly after.

That has been a catalyst for growth and recruitment, highlighted by an impressive portfolio of projects across healthcare, social housing, and education.

Wynne Construction has gone from strength-to-strength since, anticipating a turnover in excess of £100m after almost tripling revenue from £32m to £93m across the last financial year.

More than 20 projects were lined up for 2024, including Wrexham University’s Enterprise, Engineering, and Optics Centre (EEOC), the first construction contract under the £240m North Wales Growth Deal, and a new school for Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Llyn-Y-Forwyn in Ferndale, Rhondda Cynon Taf as well as a £26m project for Linc in South Wales.

Wynne Construction operates throughout Wales and the North West of England, and regularly leads on projects in sectors including education, social housing, healthcare, and sport and leisure.
