Wynne Construction’s design and build activity on two multi-million-pound school projects have received the seal of approval from cabinet secretary for education Lynne Neagle MS.
The Merthyr Tydfil-born member of the Senedd headed to Anglesey to visit Ysgol Corn Hir in Llangefni and Newborough’s Ysgol Santes Dwynwen.
Built to BREEAM excellent standards, the state-of-the-art facilities provide school education for around 450 pupils on the island.
The £10m Ysgol Corn Hir construction featured 10 classrooms for 4-11-year-olds, an additional nursery classroom, and a childcare unit.
The £5.8m Ysgol Santes Dwynwen development saw four primary schools replaced by a single-story building containing nine classrooms.
Both received funding from the Welsh Government through its 21st Century Schools and Sustainable Communities for Learning programmes.
Cabinet secretary for education, Lynne Neagle MS, said: “It is fantastic to see how Welsh Government investment is benefitting communities in Anglesey through new school buildings.
“Combined with great teaching and learning, these state-of-the-art facilities can help ensure that our children get the best education possible.”
Denbighshire-based Wynne Construction’s social value manager Jodi Hamilton was thrilled to help showcase the company’s high-quality work to Ms Neagle.
She said: “We are proud of the work we have done to help provide the most modern educational facilities for hundreds of students on Anglesey.
“Improving communities in which we operate is high on the agenda for Wynne, and it is great to return to projects we have completed and see just how much of a positive impact they’ve had.”
Also in attendance was Anglesey’s education and Welsh language portfolio holder, councillor Dafydd Roberts, who said: “We were delighted to welcome the cabinet secretary for education here to Anglesey to see how Welsh Government funding has been put to good use to develop exciting new education projects.
“We have used this funding to invest in new school buildings, which are fit for purpose, in the right place, meet pupils’ needs and are now resources which communities can fully utilise.
“The new Ysgol Corn Hir and Ysgol Santes Dwynwen are fine examples of what can be achieved.
“Both schools have brought new infrastructure and facilities, and more importantly a means of ensuring the best education in a fantastic environment for future generations.”
